Question:198 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she will grant free fees and a higher education maintenance grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork on compassionate grounds. [4165/97]

The student in question has already completed two years of undergraduate study for a Bachelor of Science Degree at UCC. Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme and the free fees initiative he cannot be considered for funding until he has successfully completed the first two years of the Bachelor of Education Degree course he is currently pursuing at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
