Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Seán Haughey

Question:

209 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education her views on the fact that the Human Development Department at St. Patrick's College of Education, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, has no staff and the courses are run by the Philosophy Department and that at the same college, there is only one member of staff teaching physical education in spite of commitments in the White Paper on Education to physical education; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4256/97]

The necessary courses in Human Development are co-ordinated and staffed by five members of the education department. The quality of the courses provided is recognised as being of a very high standard. With regard to physical education, in addition to a full-time teacher of physical education, the college employs a number of part-time teachers to provide adequately for the college's needs.
