Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

212 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will approve school transport for a family (details supplied) to Doneraile post primary school, County Cork, in view of the proposed change in other areas; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4318/97]

The family to whom the Deputy refers is ineligible for school transport as they reside less than three miles from their appropriate post-primary centre. Accordingly, under the terms of the school transport scheme, it is not open to my Department to approve school transport for this family to Doneraile post primary centre.

The provision for second level education in this area of County Cork is currently being examined by my Department. As part of this examination, the provision of transport services for eligible pupils to their appropriate post-primary centres will be considered, having regard to the terms of the school transport scheme.
