Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pending Redundancies.

Michael Bell

Question:

250 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of pending redundancies as notified to his Department by companies in Drogheda, County Louth; if he will list the companies involved; the reason given in any such notifications to his Department; the action, if any, he is taking on the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4162/97]

Under the Redundancy Payments Act, my Department has received a notification from one company in respect of one person in Drogheda.

As regards the Protection of Employment Act, 1977, I have received a notification from a company in Drogheda that they have announced a voluntary redundancy early retirement plan which they hope will be accepted by a number of their workforce. In view of the fact that there is only one company involved, it would be inappropriate to divulge the confidential details sought by the Deputy which would serve to identify the company concerned.
