Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cattle Imports.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

278 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of cows-heifers imported from the United Kingdom and other European countries for each of the years from 1987 to 1996; if his Department has a record of the herds where they are placed; if they are currently being monitored due to the BSE scare; if all animals imported were personally inspected by his Department's veterinary surgeon at the point of entry; his views on whether large numbers of herds which were affected were pedigree; if so, the concerns, if any, he has in this regard; and the number of affected herds in north Cork, south Cork and west Cork in view of the fact that there are divisional areas of Cork County Council which are all clearly identifiable on the map of the local authority for council veterinary purposes.
