289 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the progress, if any, which has been made with regard to the application by Donegal South-West Community Television Co-operative for a licence for the transmission of television signals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. While my Department has received a number of requests for licences for the retransmission of television signals since the High Court action taken by south coast community television in 1995 it does not seem to have received a request in the name of the organisation mentioned by the Deputy.
In relation to these requests the position is that in the context of my deliberations on the south coast application I will examine any implications which may arise in respect of other retransmission systems. However, it is not proposed to issue any new licences for television retransmission pending a final decision in that case.
