Question:

292 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the rates of gratuity paid to the various lines of the reserve; the cost of such payment in each of the years from 1995 to 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4389/97]

Defence Force regulations prescribe the rates of gratuity payable to members of the 1st Line Reserve and the 2nd Line Reserve as set out in the following tables:

The gratuities paid to members of the 1st Line Reserve and the 2nd Line Reserve in respect of the years 1995 and 1996 are detailed hereunder. The final figure for the year 1997 will not be available until the end of the year.
