Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Deployment.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

296 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Defence the changes, if any, which are proposed for the battalion structure in the Border areas; the implications, if any, these changes will have for the development of the Army barracks in the region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4458/97]

As part of the Defence Forces review implementation plan there will be some reorganisation of Defence Force personnel serving in the Border area. One of the main features of the reorganisation and restructuring of the Defence Forces is to increase the number of operational troops available at any given time. It is not envisaged that the reorganisation will have any implications for the development of military barracks in the region.
