Vol. 475 No. 2

Written Answers. - Reserve Defence Forces.

Michael Bell

Question:

132 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence when he expects proposals to be submitted to him with regard to the FCA and Slua Muirí in view of the current exercise in train regarding the review of these bodies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4591/97]

A special study of the Reserve Defence Force was recommended by the efficiency audit group in its defence forces review implementation plan. This envisages that the examination of the reserve will take place over the three years' time frame allocated to the first phase of the implementation plan and that such examination will include consultation with the appropriate representative bodies. Boards have been set up to seek the views of the members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and An Slua Muirí and it is anticipated that these will have completed their task by the end of March.
