Question:

46 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach if he will give a breakdown from the latest statistical figures available from the CSO on our young population; if he will give breakdown of the population numbers and gender of people under five, people under ten, people under 18, people under 25, people under 35 and people under 45; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4587/97]

The information requested by the Deputy is contained in the following table. The details given relate to the official population estimates for April 1996 which were published in October 1996. Definitive demographic data from the 1996 Census of Population will become available in the second half of this year.
