Question:

97 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in building the proposed extension to St. Joseph's primary school, Kilmuckridge, County Wexford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4613/97]

It was not possible to allow the proposed extension to St. Joseph's primary school, Kilmuckridge to proceed until the capital funding for primary schools in 1997 was settled. My Department will be in touch with the school shortly about advancing the project further.

Michael Creed

Question:

98 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the totally unsatisfactory accommodation available to a remedial teacher to conduct classes at a school (details supplied) in County Cork and if she will sanction grant aid towards the provision of the remedial classroom, teacher's room and toilets in the school. [4614/97]

The school to which the Deputy refers has indicated to my Department that it is dissatisfied with the accommodation available for the remedial teacher. The school has requested the provision of a remedial room and additional ancillary accommodation.

A report on the matter has been requested from my Department's professional advisors. On receipt of this report, the matter will be considered within the context of available funds and a decision coveyed to the chairperson of the board of management.
