Question:

129 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has for the disposal of specified risk material; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4708/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 127 and 129 together. Arrangements are being made for the storage with a view to ultimate disposal of stocks of meat and bonemeal containing specified risk material produced prior to 21 February. Under the Diseases of Animals (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) (Specified Risk Material) Order, 1997 (S.I. No. 80 of 1997) controls are being introduced on the removal and treatment of specified risk material. Specified risk material will be processed separately and stored pending arrangements for its final disposal.
