Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Acceptance of Gifts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

156 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the gifts she accepted since her appointment to Government; if she will give details of the gifts and their monetary value; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5282/97]

The practice has been for me, as Minister for Education, to accept relatively inexpensive gifts to mark occasions such as visits, official openings, etc., and not to accept expensive gifts. It has not been the practice to describe items presented.

However, I assure the House that I did not receive items in the period in question which would be in excess of the threshold set out in the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995.
