Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - School Transport.

John Browne

Question:

158 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Education if she will provide free school transport or financial assistance towards transport for a pupil (details supplied) in County Wexford, who has cancer and is living in a remote rural area, to enable him to attend the local vocational school. [5347/97]

There is no provision in the school transport scheme whereby a grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements may be allowed where a pupil is severely medically handicapped, and where he-she cannot be facilitated on the normal network of school transport.

The case referred to by the Deputy is at present being examined in my Department. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome in due course.
