Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Acceptance of Gifts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

178 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Social Welfare the gifts he accepted since his appointment to Government; if he will give details of the gifts and their monetary value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5284/97]

The Ethics in Public Office Act (1995) regulates gifts which are made by virtue of office to office holders and to qualified members of their family. The Act commenced on 1 November 1995.

In the period of holding office as Minister for Social Welfare, both before and after commencement of the Ethics in Public Office Act, I have abided by the principles and conditions set out in that Act.
