199 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence if any form of recognition currently exists for persons who retire after long service in the FCA; if he will introduce a system such as as a badge with different colours for different grades; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5388/97]

Members and former members of the FCA and Slua Muirí who have seven years satisfactory service may be awarded An Bonn Serbhíse. A first bar to this medal shall be awarded to members who have 12 years satisfactory service. A second bar shall be awarded to members who have 21 years satisfactory service.
