Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Acceptance of Gifts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

201 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the gifts he accepted since his appointment to Government; if he will give details of the gifts and their monetary value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5290/97]

The practice has been for members of the Government to accept relatively inexpensive gifts to mark occasions such as visits, official openings, etc. and not to accept expensive gifts. It has not been the practice to describe items presented. However, I can assure the House that I did not receive items in the period in question which would be in excess of the threshold set in the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995.
