Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Waterford Regional Technical College.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

50 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education when the necessary legislation will be put in place to allow a proper upgrading of Waterford Regional Technical College to institute of technology status; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4929/97]

The necessary order to effect the change of name of Waterford Regional Technical College to Waterford Institute of Technology will be made under the Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992 at an early date.

In my statement of 19 January 1997, I indicated that the implementation of the decision in relation to Waterford would commence immediately, in consultation with the Waterford College authorities. To this end, an initial meeting has taken place between the Waterford authorities and officials of my Department. It is envisaged that further meetings will take place with a view to proceeding with implementation in an orderly and expeditious way.
