Vol. 475 No. 5
82 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the gifts he accepted since his appointment to Government; if he will give details of the gifts and their monetary value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5280/97]
The practice has been for members of the Government to accept relatively inexpensive gifts to mark occasions such as visits, official openings, etc., and not to accept expensive gifts. It has not been the practice to describe items presented.
However, I assure the House that I have complied with the procedures set out in the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995, in respect of all gifts received while in office, including any received when the Act was not in force.
