Limerick East): The report of the review body on higher remuneration in the public sector on hospital consultants was published on 10 December 1996. In the intervening period I have had a number of meetings with the two organisations representing the medical profession in an effort to persuade them to enter into discussions on implementing the review body's recommendations. The two organisations have now agreed to do so and I expect formal negotiations between representatives of the profession and health service management to commence shortly.
