Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Housing Aid for the Elderly.

Michael Ring

Question:

117 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of funding allocated to the Western Health Board for the special housing aid for the elderly scheme; the number who have benefited from the scheme in 1997; the reason no further applications are being considered in 1997 due to lack of funding; and if the health board will get a further allocation in 1997 due to the large volume of applications. [5343/97]

The initial allocations for 1997 for works under the scheme of special housing aid for the elderly will shortly be determined and notified to all health boards by the task force who administer the scheme under the aegis of my Department.

Information requested on the number of cases who have benefited under the scheme in 1997 is not available at this stage in my Department, as the returns relating to the operation of the scheme are submitted on a half yearly basis. The next return by the health boards on action under the scheme will cover the period to 30 June 1997.
