Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Acceptance of Gifts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

122 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the gifts he accepted since his appointment to Government; if he will give details of the gifts and their monetary value; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5281/97]

It has never been the practice to give details of the relatively inexpensive gifts made to Ministers on the occasion of official openings, visits to particular areas, visits abroad, etc and I see no reason to depart from that practice.

Under the Ethics in Public Office Act, I am obliged to declare gifts received with a value in excess of £500. I have received no such gifts at any time since my appointment as Minister.
