Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

106 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will confirm receipt of a request from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for funding approval for refurbishment works at Hillview Court, Ballinteer, Dublin 18; the nature of the proposed works; the number of units of accommodation covered by the request; the cost of the proposed works; when he will give a decision on the applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5537/97]

An application for funding under the remedial works scheme has been received for this estate. The proposals include the provision of 53 new dwellings; demolition of one existing block, 16 units; the reduction of the five remaining blocks, 16 flats in each block to three storeys in height and their refurbishment; and the provision of a new central stairs area at an estimated total cost of some £5 million. The council's most recent submission for phase 1 of the work, at a cost of £461,000, relates to one of the blocks whose height is to be reduced. The council has been requested to supply additional information and this is awaited in my Department. As soon as this information is received, the matter will be examined further in the Department.
