Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Prisons Board.

Gerard Collins

Question:

16 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, which has been made with regard to the establishment of a prisons board; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5411/97]

As the Deputy is aware, the Government decided on 12 November 1996 to set up a small expert group to work out all detailed aspects of the proposed new prisons administration. This group was asked to report by the end of January 1997. The group asked for a little more time to complete their deliberations and I understand that their report is due to be submitted to me within the next few days.
