Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda and Army Escorts.

Tony Killeen

Question:

24 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Justice the contribution made to the Exchequer for Garda and Army escorts accompanying cash in transit for each of the years 1995 and 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5440/97]

The contributions sought by the Minister for Finance in his Budget Statements and made by the associated banks towards the cost of Garda escorts of cash in transit amounted to £750,000 in each of the years 1995 and 1996. I understand that the equivalent contributions from the banks towards Army escorts amounted to £2,250,000 in each of the two years in question.
