Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Court Prosecutions.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

29 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the implications, if any, for prosecution policy by the Director of Public Prosecutions, of the recent Supreme Court decision on lapse of time in child sexual abuse cases and the implications for the investigation by the Garda of such cases; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5478/97]

The Director of Public Prosecutions is independent in the exercise of his functions and as Minister for Justice I am not in a position to make any comment on the Director's prosecution policy.

In so far as the Garda authorities are concerned, I can assure the Deputy that the gardaí investigate all criminal complaints made to them, regardless of the date of the alleged offence.
