Vol. 475 No. 6

Written Answers. - Child Prostitution.

Gerard C. Connolly

Question:

75 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Justice the steps, if any, she intends to take with a view to tackling child prostitution in Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5414/97]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they, in conjunction with the health boards and other statutory bodies, monitor and investigate all complaints relating to child prostitution. The Garda domestic violence and sexual assault investigation unit is notified where child prostitution is suspected. I assure the Deputy that all complaints made to the Garda alleging the sexual abuse of children are fully and rigorously investigated.
