Vol. 475 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Tony Gregory

Question:

141 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she has satisfied herself with the reasons a school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 has refused permission to a pupil (details supplied) to return; and whether an alternative school place can be found for her to complete her leaving cert studies. [6097/97]

I was not aware of this case previously.

The selection and enrolment of pupils in second level schools is, in the first instance the responsibility of individuals schools. However, in individual cases, my Department endeavours, by a process of consultation with school management, to secure appropriate placement for pupils who have been excluded from school. Inquiries are now being made with a view to having a suitable placement provided for the student in question.
