197 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice the date on which she requested her Department to prepare a discussion document on crime; when this document will be placed before Dáil Éireann; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6319/97]

My Department is currently preparing a discussion paper on crime within the context of the Strategic Management Initiative. Detailed work commenced on the drafting of the discussion paper in September 1996 and it is expected that it will be published shortly.
