Vol. 476 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Seán Haughey

Question:

151 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education if parents of children attending fourth class in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 have been in touch with her Department regarding the situation whereby their children have had three teachers so far this academic year; if she will intervene to ensure that a permanent part-time teacher is appointed for the remainder of the academic year 1996-97; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6546/97]

I am aware that officials of my Department have had some contact from parents of pupils attending the school to which the Deputy refers concerning the high turnover of substitute teachers at the school.

The appointment of staff to primary schools is a matter for the board of management of schools. Accordingly, disquiet among parents in this matter should be brought to the attention of the school's board of management in the first instance.
