Vol. 476 No. 2

Written Answers. - Offsetting of Income Losses.

Ivor Callely

Question:

59 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the costs of allowing case V rental income losses to be offset against other income in the same way as other businesses. [6580/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available. Information from tax returns is not recorded in such a way that it would be possible to identify losses relating to rental income. To obtain the information it would be necessary to identify the cases and extract the information manually. Such an exercise could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.
