Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

116 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will approve school transport for persons (details supplied) in County Cork in order to allow them to remain at their current school until June 1997 in view of the fact that their family have had to move from the area. [7108/97]

Under the terms of the school transport scheme, post-prinary pupils who live at least three miles from the post-primary centre of the catchment area in which they reside are eligible for transport. The pupils to whom the Deputy refers live one mile from their present post-primary centre and are therefore ineligible for school transport, including transport to any other centre outside their catchment area. It is not, therefore, open to my Department to sanction transport for the pupils in question.
