Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Education Schools.

Mary Wallace

Question:

123 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the names of all schools intended for the new special education designated schools status. [7146/97]

As indicated in the White Paper on Education, Charting our Education Future, a number of ordinary primary schools will be designated by the proposed education boards as centres where students with particular disabilities may be educated.

Proposals for the establishment of the education boards are included in the recently published Education Bill.

Arrangements for the selection and designation of the schools and the provision of any necessary additional resourcing will be pursued in the context of the development of the roles of the education boards once they are established.
