Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Flag.

Ivor Callely

Question:

74 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the policy for our national flag to be flown at our national monuments under his Department's responsibility; the procedures, if any, for the flying of the national flag at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin 1; if he has satisfied himself with the current situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6960/97]

The national flag is flown at the Garden of Remembrance on a daily basis and at some other national monuments on certain days during the year in accordance with guidelines issued by the Department of the Taoiseach. At present the flag is flown during normal opening hours at the Garden of Remembrance.

I wish to inform the Deputy that I have requested that a review be undertaken of the opening hours of the garden, which will include an examination of the implications for flying the national flag there.
