Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Robert Molloy

Question:

83 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if he has authorised the seeking of tenders for the proposed Spiddal and Rossaveel water supply improvement scheme, County Galway; if he has allocated £2.964 million for expenditure on this scheme in 1997; whether work will commence on this scheme later in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6945/97]

The Spiddal-Rossaveal scheme has been included in my Department's water and sewerage schemes capital work programme for 1997 and will be advanced through the planning and design stages this year.

Tenders for site investigations for the scheme have now been approved. Completion of site investigations will allow the contract documents to be finalised and the early commencement of the tendering arrangements. It is not expected that the scheme will get to construction before 1998. The total estimated cost of the scheme, including the planning and construction phases, is £2.964 million. Costs incurred by the local authority on the planning and design stages will be paid by my Department in 1997.

Joe Walsh

Question:

84 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide funding for a water supply scheme (details supplied) in County Cork. [6946/97]

A preliminary report for this scheme has been submitted to my Department, but, given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve it.
