Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Criminal Assets Bureau.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

101 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on a newspaper report (details supplied) entitled, Tax Man in Ten Million Pound Blitz on Criminals, which referred to a £10 million tax demand on the State's top 20 gang bosses; the progress, if any, to date in relation to this operation by the Criminal Assets Bureau; the assets, if any, which have been seized; the moneys being sought; and the amounts, if any, which have been secured to date. [7183/97]

I am satisfied, following consultation with the Garda authorities that comment on reports of this kind could jeopardise the operations of the bureau. In the circumstances it would not be appropriate to comment.
