Written Answers. - Departmental Safety Policy.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

130 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether his Department has a safety statement and a designated safety officer. [7224/97]

Safety statements are in operation for my Department's administrative offices and for a number of the Department's laboratories throughout the country. My Department has also prepared three safety statements covering staff engaged on a variety of field duty activities and is continuing, through consultation with staff, to complete work on the outstanding safety statements.

Individual managers have been designated to co-ordinate matters on health and safety in accordance with section 12 (4) (c) of the Safety (Health and Welfare at Work) Act, 1989.
