Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ophthalmic Treatment Services.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

46 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Health the criteria used by his Department to establish the entitlement of medical card holders to free eye glasses in view of the difficulties experienced by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [7230/97]

Limerick East): Under the 1970 Health Act, medical card holders are entitled to ophthalmic treatment services and optical appliances as necessary, from the health boards.

As the provision of ophthalmic services to eligible persons in Dublin 12 is the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Health Board I have asked the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
