Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Grant Aid.

Noel Ahern

Question:

138 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the scheme or method, if any, by which an elderly widow living alone can receive grant assistance towards the cost of central heating installation. [7607/97]

There are no grants available from my Department for installing central heating in a house. However, under the disabled persons grant scheme, a local authority may, for the purposes of determining the level of a grant include the cost of providing central heating in the overall cost of necessary adaptation works. In circumstances where a proposed central heating system extends beyond the accommodation for the disabled person, an apportionment of the cost is made.
