Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Traveller Accommodation.

Tony Killeen

Question:

139 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Environment the implications of a recent court decision regarding a proposed traveller halting site in County Clare for policy in the area of traveller accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7610/97]

The judgment referred to relates to a planning issue in a specific case arising from proposals for a halting site in County Clare. The national strategy for traveller accommodation provides for the Planning Acts to be amended to put an effective planning framework in place which would facilitate implementation of traveller accommodation programmes. Proposals for legislation to give effect to the national strategy are being finalised.
