Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Finucane

Question:

198 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to the capital building programme for an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Limerick which has been approved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7753/97]

An extension to the school to which the Deputy refers has not been approved. While my Department has indicated to the school that an extension represents the ideal solution to the school's accommodation needs, it is not possible at present to sanction the project due to the current level of contractual commitments. The only option immediately available is to carry out repairs to the existing accommodation. A grant has recently been sanctioned to enable this work be done and I understand that repairs are to be undertaken shortly.
