Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Garda Stations.

Tom Moffatt

Question:

218 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Justice when she will allow a new Garda station to go to tender in Ballina, County Mayo, on a recently acquired site in view of the detection of structural building defects of a major nature in the current Garda station. [7676/97]

I understand that the Office of Public Works has not yet secured a site for a new Garda station although I believe they are exploring a number of options.

It is not possible to say at this stage when this project might commence but the Deputy can be assured that there will be no avoidable delay.

John O'Donoghue

Question:

219 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice when a new divisional Garda headquarters will be provided at Fermoy, County Cork; whether there are difficulties regarding the title to the proposed site; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7757/97]

I understand that a State-owned site in the town would be suitable for a new Garda station but that some legal difficulties are being experienced with the title. The Office of Public Works are pursuing the matter.

It is not possible to say at this stage when work on a new station might commence but the Deputy can be assured that, subject to other priority works and the availability of funds, this project will proceed as quickly as possible.
