Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - FCA Officer Courses.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

268 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence the policy, if any, regarding the provision of potential officer courses in view of the substantive shortage of FCA officers; and if it is intended to fill all appointments and vacancies arising pending the publication of the Government plans for the reorganisation of the reserve force. [7444/97]

Having regard to the provision in the Department's Estimate for the training of the Reserve it is anticipated that in 1994 32 members of the Reserve Defence Force will undergo a preliminary potential officers course and that 39 members will undergo a potential officer's course.

The filling of FCA officer vacancies is at all times dependant on, inter alia, the availability of suitably qualified personnel.
