Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Departmental Safety Policy.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

49 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Taoiseach whether his Department has a safety statement and a designated safety officer. [7219/97]

Under the terms of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989 the Department of the Taoiseach has in place a safety statement which has been circulated to all staff. A designated fire and safety officer has also been designated to ensure that the guidelines contained in the statement are adhered to.

The offices and bodies under the aegis of my Department are:

— Attorney General's Office

— Director of Public Prosecutions

— Chief State Solicitor's Office

— Central Statistics Office

— National Economic and Social Council

— Area Development Management Ltd.

— Law Reform Commission

— Western Development Commission

With the exception of the Western Development Commission, all have safety statements and designated safety officers in place.
The Western Development Commission is currently in the process of obtaining premises and appointing a chief executive officer. As soon as these arrangements are in place a safety statement will be drawn up and a designated safety officer appointed.
