Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Departmental Staff.

Edward Nealon

Question:

51 Mr. Nealon asked the Taoiseach the number of civil servants, by grade, employed in his own office, including his constituency office, and in the offices of his Minister(s) of State; and the number and titles of any non-civil servants in each of these offices. [7279/97]

The information sought by the Deputy has already been provided in response to previous parliamentary questions.

I refer the Deputy to Question No. 51 of 26 March 1996, tabled by Deputy Dermot Ahern. The situation remains largely unchanged. The only addition to note is the assignment of one civil servant, a staff officer, as Private Secretary to Minister of State Avril Doyle. The civilian drivers assigned to the Ministers of State were not mentioned in the previous reply. The position at present is that Minister of State Gay Mitchell and Minister of State Donal Carey each have two civilian drivers.
