Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Medical Cards.

Noel Ahern

Question:

88 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health the statistics for each health board area for the percentage of people covered by medical cards and the percentage of people over 65 covered by medical cards. [7612/97]

Limerick East): The information sought by the Deputy is set out as follows. I should point out that preliminary figures from the census, conducted by the Central Statistics Office for 1996, shows the total population only and does not include a breakdown by age. While the table shows the percentage of persons covered by medical cards as a percentage of the total population in 1996, the percentage of persons over 65 years of age who are currently covered by the medical card is based on 1991 census figures.
