Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

107 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education if she will recognise the General National Vocational Qualification two year science course at Newry Higher Education Institute for higher education grants; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7801/97]

Courses at BTEC Higher National Diploma level or equivalent offered at approved colleges in Northern Ireland may qualify for recognition under the scholarships operated by vocational education committees.

If the course in question meets these requirements, my Department will be prepared to consider an application from the relevant college authorities for the recognition of this course in the context of the scholarships scheme.
