Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Business Expansion Scheme.

David Andrews

Question:

13 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Finance if he will extend the business expansion scheme for new tourism start-ups; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6005/97]

It is not entirely clear to what the Deputy is referring when he refers to new tourism start-ups. The business expansion scheme and the seed capital scheme already apply to tourist traffic undertakings as defined in the BES legislation. That term has been defined in very broad terms to ensure that a wide range of tourism activities can be covered encompassing a wide range of approved tourism facilities with the specific exception of hotels, guesthouses and self-catering accommodation which were removed from the scheme by the Finance Act, 1991, following a review of the BES.
