Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Independent Review Body Report.

Robert Molloy

Question:

16 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Finance whether a decision has been made on the current general report of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6528/97]

As indicated in the statement issued on 4 March on publication of the report, the Government has decided, in line with the established Government policy of accepting the recommendations of this independent review body, to accept the recommendations in the report in principle.

The question of implementation of the rates which would flow from the recommendations will be considered at a later date in the context of Partnership 2000.

In the meantime, some preliminary arrangements which would arise from new or improved approaches recommended for certain areas by the review body will be addressed. These areas relate to the method of determining the remuneration of the chief executives of commercial State bodies, the introduction of performance-related pay for chief executives of health boards and county managers and the further development of performance-related pay in the Civil Service.
