Vol. 476 No. 6

Written Answers. - Drainage Programme.

Noel Treacy

Question:

57 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Finance the reason works have not been carried out at locations (details supplied); the date on which such works will commence; the nature of the works to be executed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7822/97]

(Mr. Coveney): Since 1995 resources, financial and staffing, have been concentrated on undertaking the current priority drainage programme, involving the consideration and preparation of drainage schemes for the alleviation of flooding in nine areas around the country and the major investigation into the causes of the flooding problems in south Galway and the Suir Valley. Pending the drawing up of another list of flood damaged areas for consideration under the Drainage Acts no commitments have been given to carry out works in any further areas and I can confirm that there have not been, nor are there currently, any proposals to undertake drainage works at the location mentioned in County Galway and County Clare.
